Equalities Team (E-Team)
Black History Month October 2021
Across the Juniors, each year group explored a range of significant black figures from the 21st Century. Each year group took part in activities that allowed them the opportunity to explore the cultural significance of that person, why they are considered important and to discuss why it is important to recognise significant figures from different backgrounds and experiences. These activities included exploring poetry from Benjamin Zephaniah and artwork inspired by his poetry. Art-work from Chris Ofili was also discussed and used to inspire self-portraits.
Year 6 also chose their own research projects exploring significant black, female figures and designed fact files and reports about their findings.
Odd Socks Day 2021
This year the E-Team organised Odd Socks Day to be celebrated as part of anti-bullying week. Across the Infants and Juniors, activities took place to celebrate differences, how we can treat each other well, using the Anti Bullying theme ‘One Kind Word’. The E-Team wanted to create the opportunity to encourage people to express themselves, celebrate our individuality and what makes us all unique!

We had our first E-Team meeting with our new class reps. We discussed some ideas on how to promote equality in the school including Anti-Bullying Week 2021 and Odd Socks Day on Monday 15th November, 2021.
Black History Month 2020
In October, as a whole school, we explored the cultural significance of Haile Selassie on the world and Bath.
We worked with the charity Fairfield House, who provided us with a video about his contribution to both Bath and the world.
The Juniors also looked at his UN speech from 1963 and the lyrics of Bob Marley’s song and the global significance of his beliefs and ideas.
E-Team Bake- Off 2020
On February 12th, as part of celebrating cultural differences, The St Saviour's E-Team held a Bake Off encouraging children to enter foods from their family or traditions. We had Dutch Apple Pie, Algerian Baklava and Italian pizza as well as recipes created by Grannies and Grandads that have been passed onto family members. Here the E-Team are in action tasting the items.
E-Team 2019 (working with SARI)
SARI (Stand Against Racism and Inequality charity) joined St Saviours to follow up their previous work and to lead Assemblies for both the Infants and Juniors on diversity, being different and the questions children might have around their understanding of race and racism. Each year-group then took part in workshops exploring cultural stereotypes through pictures and what it can feel like to be different and how this is not only ok but a good thing.
The E Team also took part with representatives from the Infants in a workshop on equality and inclusivity and how they could promote this themselves in school.
