Join Catherine (EYFS lead and Year R teacher) to learn about phonics at St Saviour's and how you can help at home.

How many books can you read this Summer?

Over the summer holidays, could you read a new book every day? Share the book together, discuss the stories/facts, make predictions, ask questions, and share your favourites with your family and friends! You could use the library, ask friends if you can borrow books that they enjoy, and remember to try non fiction as well!

Please bring in your favourite book (named) so that you can Show and Tell it during your first weeks at school!

Researchers in the United States who had looked at the impact of parents reading with their children quoted the following figures in a news release about their findings:

Here’s how many words kids would have heard by the time they were 5 years old: Never read to, 4,662 words; 1–2 times per week, 63,570 words; 3–5 times per week, 169,520 words; daily, 296,660 words; and five books a day, 1,483,300 words.

A little look at what to expect in Reception and what you can do to help

Family Photo

Please bring in a family photo that we can keep in school and put up on display.

Please bring it to your individual drop in session on September 6/7th.

If you do not have one, we can take a photograph of whoever is at the drop in session to use.

Welcome to Reception!
