The St Saviour’s Schools will be commemorating service men and women who have died in conflicts since the onset of World War One next week.

Mr George Strong was the Headteacher of St Saviour’s over 100 years ago. He left his role in 1916 to fight in the war and was killed in action in January 1917. 

Over the last few years we have studied and researched his story and the story of other Larkhall residents that served in World War One. Three years ago Mrs Offler and Mrs Merrett (Junior School Teachers) spent a whole term with the Year 6 children researching and writing an end of year performance on the life of Mr George Strong and this work was supported by a National Lottery Grant - it was an amazing and special performance.

Since this performance we have continued to use the research every year to learn about Mr George Strong and share his story with the children.

Attached are four photos. One photo is of the memorial that can be found at the Junior School. This shows the list of Larkhall residents that served and died in World War One. The second and third photos are photos are of the school ledger for 1916/1917 (over 100 years old and still stored in the school archives). They show entries when Mr George Strong announced he was leaving to fight in the war and when the education officer came to the school to announce that Mr Strong was killed in action. The last photo is a photo of Mr George Strong.
