St Saviour's Church Schools

Weekly Roundup Infant School

In our Welcome to the week assembly on Monday, we welcomed Wendy one of our Governors to join us. Monday’s assemblies always focus on our school values and key themes for the week and we also share our Reader, Writer and Mathematician of the week from each KS1 class. The children share why they have been chosen.

Nadia said, ‘I have become more fluent in my reading.’

Frank said, ‘I am beginning to join my handwriting which helps me flow my ideas when I’m writing.’

Anna said, ‘I persevered with using arrays for repeated addition.’

We talked further about what helps us to learn in our classrooms.

Alivia said, ‘We use 3 B4 me, we use our brain, we use a book or resource, we ask a buddy then if we still are not sure we ask our teacher.’

Tiggy said, ‘We can use the maths resources.’

Sophie said, ‘We can look at the working walls.’

The children feel so proud of their achievements and its great hear the children talk about their skills, knowledge and next steps within these core subjects. On a Friday we have a Celebration assembly where we share certificates with children based on our Learning to Learn skills. These certificates are presented to children for being super Self Managers, Active Learners, Creative Thinkers, Reflective Thinkers and Team Workers. We hope to be able to invite you back into our Friday’s assemblies again soon.

We will be having a Presentation assembly on Friday 10th June and we would love you to attend!

You are invited to arrive at the Infant main entrance from 1:30 for a 1:45 start. Rachel who has supported us throughout the project will be there to present our Platinum award and we will hear all about Play from the children. You are then invited to join us in the playground for a Stay and Play session to see our wonderful play in action.

LGB

Our Local Governing Body met on Wednesday in person for the first time since lockdown! It gave us the opportunity to walk around both sites looking at the learning environment and children’s books  seeing the developments in our School Development Plan in action. They were really impressed with the quality of the children’s work and how the classrooms have been organised to support all our learners.

A message from Cam our SEND Governor

I am Cam and I have been a school governor for a year. l am the SEND link governor which means I support Sara (the SEND coordinator for both schools) in her role and report areas related to SEND to the Governing Body. I was previously an SEND coordinator, a deputy head and have a diploma in SEND but there is always more to learn!

I have really enjoyed working with Sara and seeing how the school is responding to a wide range of wonderfully individual needs that make up our St Saviours Family. As our community changes and grows we love welcoming children with all ranges of abilities - we are all special at something and we enjoy finding out what our children can teach us.

This last year we have initiated a parent questionnaire, looked at ways to make our school information more accessible and we are working on trying to build closer relations with families. Recently the Trust conducted a SEND review of all we do; it was a great exercise in looking at and evaluating our practice, identifying areas we do well and those we want to continue to grow. We were commended on the experiences that all children have, particularly those with SEND and how well the teachers and adults support pupils, as well as our school focus on dyslexia.?

We want to deepen the way we work with parents and families of those with SEND so if you’d like to be part of a working group, please email me camilla.densmore@stsaviours.bwmat.org or Sara Hibbs at sara.hibbs@stsaviours.bwmat.org.? I wish you a happy weekend!

I hope you all have a good weekend.

Best wishes
