St Saviour's Church Schools

Weekly Roundup – Infant School

The week started with the wonderful bedtime story. It was lovely to see all the children’s excited faces as they returned to school in the dark. The teachers had done a fantastic job of making their classrooms magical with ‘log fires’, fairy lights, lamps and blankets and they were expert story tellers, capturing the imagination of all the children. A huge thank you to the PTA and volunteers who helped make it even more special with the delivery of hot chocolate and biscuits for the children and refreshments for the adults.

Thomas said, ‘I loved bedtime story. I got to dip my biscuit in my hot chocolate!’

On Thursday we had a visit from Faye Bertham who is the Assistant Director for Education in the Bath and Wells Multi Academy Trust. Her role is to look at Teaching and Learning in the Trust schools.

We had a fantastic day showing Faye around. We saw children making penguin cakes in nursery, a celebration tuff tray that inspired some Christmas singing. Team work, problem solving how to create a ball run using a variety of tubes. Children using their phonic knowledge to decode words for reading across the school and some challenging maths focusing on problem solving and reasoning with the 5 x table. I’m proud to say (but not surprised) that we saw the Caring Code in action wherever we went throughout the school!

Luca told me that the best learning ever this week was the Maths sessions. The 5 x table has definitely enthused the Year 2 children.

The last joyful news to share with you is the singing that I can hear around the school throughout the day. The rehearsals of the Christmas performances are well underway and I can promise you are in for a treat!
