  • Junior Weekly Roundup

    Fri 23 Jun 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Weekly Roundup - Junior School

It has been a great week this week. We have been focusing on and thinking about Refugee Week, celebrating everyone’s differences and making everyone feel welcome.

    Refugee week.

Today in assembly we shared some of the great work we have been doing around Refugee week.

Year 6 focused on the book, ‘The Arrival’ by Shaun Tan, and did some writing based around this.

Ava G said, “The story was about how a man had to leave his home because a bad thing had taken over and he had to leave his wife and child. He needed to find somewhere where they could be safe. I enjoyed the story because it was very interesting. It was a great story even though there were only pictures.”

Eva F said, “I understand how hard it is for refugees to leave their countries and the book helped me to realise this. It was a lovely idea to tell the story through the images, words don't always need to be used to describe it... pictures can do the job better; you can make it up yourself which is more fun.”

Laurie said, “I think that it is very important to invite refugees into our country and it should be a top priority. It is also very important that when they do arrive, they are treated with respect and dignity.”

Joe said, “If refugees come to our country, we need to keep in mind what they have been through and show some empathy towards them.”

Roxie said, “I think that if a refugee has come over to this country, we need to be respectful as sometimes asking questions about their situation can be painful and upsetting.”

SARI visited and held a whole school assembly, and then did a workshop with Year 5. They shared in assembly today that SARI explained differences are really important and what makes the world a special and interesting place to live in. It is important to celebrate differences. Thank you to Kamala for organising the workshop and assembly for us. Click here for pictures and more information.

    Bake off

The E-Council, supported by Mrs Jacobs, have been working hard to organise a ‘Bake Off’. Children made and sold bakes from their family traditions and cultures, and raised over £100 which will go towards non-fiction books for the library. Click here to see pictures of the bake off, and also pictures from the assembly that SARI (Standing Against Racism and Inequality) led this week.

Dates are being added to our school calendar so please do check regularly and subscribe to our online school calendar.

We currently have vacancies across both schools so please do also click on the vacancy link and share with friends and family.

    Have a great weekend,

    Best wishes,

    Mrs Simmons
