  • Weekly Roundup – Junior School

    Fri 27 May 2022

What a busy week at the Juniors! Jubilee picnic, Green Day and … an Ofsted Inspection!

    Ofsted

Firstly, thank you so much for your support during our inspection. We were blown away by the treats, cards and kind messages which came flooding in throughout the week– these really helped to keep the whole team’s energy levels high ðŸ˜Š Thank you also to everyone who completed the survey on Parent View, and who took time to speak directly with the Inspector. Click here to see some of the results of the parent survey – we are so pleased that you, our community, feel happy and safe at school - this is our most important job.

The Inspection involved the whole school community including our fantastic team of Governors, members of the Trust and of course, our fantastic colleagues at the Infants whose support was invaluable to the Junior team. A special thank you goes to St Saviour’s Church who have given each child a small treat to say, “Thank you for being you,” and to Tim from SG Forest school, who brought forward his planned gardening session at the Juniors. He appeared as if by magic on Monday evening to make sure the learning environment was looking at its best for our special visit. Thank you everyone.

We were very proud of the children and their attitudes, behaviour learning throughout the inspection, as we always are! We were really pleased that the Inspector got to experience typical days of fun, laughter and learning at the Juniors – including a Jubilee picnic complete with party hats! We will look forward to sharing more detailed information with you about this inspection once we received written information from Ofsted (this could be a couple of weeks).

    Jubilee Picnic

We celebrated the Jubilee in style on Tuesday with a picnic lunch, party hats and regal bunting! Thank you to Kai and Jake in the kitchen who did an amazing job matching everyone up with the right picnic components for their lunches ðŸ˜Š You can see pictures of the Jubilee celebrations here. Sadly, Kai will be ending his work at the Junior School today, and so we gave him thank you cards and a gift in assembly. We will really miss him, his kind, caring approach, and his delicious dinners! Wishing you all the best Kai in the future - thank you for everything you have done for us during your time at the Juniors.

    Green Day

On Monday, the children chose to donate money raised today to Greenpeace. Find out more about this here. We have been doing some interesting activities for Green Day:

Year 3 have been focussing on ‘the plastic problem’

Year 4 have focussed on palm oil, using the book, ‘There’s a Rangtan in my Bedroom’ as a stimulus

Year 5 have been designing sustainable homes for the future – we saw these in praise assembly today

Year 6 shared the work of Mohammed Rezwan and his floating education system

  • Weekly roundup – Infant School

    Fri 27 May 2022

    What a busy week!

We’ve had Ofsted at the Juniors, Jubilee celebrations and Green day! A great way to draw an end to term 5!

Last Saturday a team of children and parents came into school to help do some gardening and weeding. The school grounds were buzzing with a hive of activity for two hours and in that time plants were planted, leaves were swept and weeds were tamed. A huge thank you to all who came – it has made a massive difference to the grounds and the children and staff appreciate it greatly. A special thank you to Lucy who is steadily working on our kitchen garden vegetable beds.

Click here to see some of the team in action (I didn’t get to snap everyone).

On Tuesday, the children and staff enjoyed a day full of Jubilee activities and a Jubilee picnic at lunchtime. Lisa worked hard in the kitchen and produced a fun buffet style lunch that was delicious – I particularly enjoyed the vegan sausage rolls! Click here for Jubilee celebrations.

Connie said, ‘The Queen has been our queen for 70 years.’

Ezra said, ‘I liked the Jubilee picnic, I liked the chocolate cake’.

Aaliyah said, ‘I liked having lunch outside’.

Today all the children came into school wearing green. Louise shared some activities to promote thinking about our environment and ways we can live to support caring for it.

Defne said, ‘It’s thinking about nature.’

Zac said, ‘It’s better to walk or take the bus or scooter than driving your car so that there’s less pollution.’

Gabriel said, ‘We are helping plants grow.’

Sophie said, ‘Helping the community by making it a nicer place to live.’

Freddie said, ‘Electric cars are better because petrol makes fumes and pollution.’

Thank you to FOSS who have organised refreshments for our after-school seedling swap. We look forward to seeing pictures of your grown and flourishing plants. Click here for Green Day photos.

A reminder that we will be having our OPAL award assembly and Stay and Play for parents and carers on Friday 10th June from 1:30. We hope that you can come and join in our celebration and experience OPAL play first hand.

We wish you a wonderful and restful half term break and we look forward to seeing you all for the beginning of Term 6 on Tuesday 7th June (Monday 6th June Inset Day, school closed to children).

    Best wishes

    Sophie

    Today was 'Green Day'.

Children took part in fun activities leanring about the environment and what we can do to make it better!

The Infant School voted on which animal they would most like to adopt. Tigers and Penguins are in the running so far but we will keep you updated when the final tally comes in. We have created surveys on how we travel to school. We have planted peas and had discussions about the environment.

    Fri 27 May 2022

Thanks to all the parents, carers, staff, Governors and our awesome children for showing Ofsted the 'St Saviour's way'.

  • Queen's Jubilee

    Fri 27 May 2022

This week we celebrated the Queen's Jubilee with a special picnic!

The children received their Jubilee story books to take home and made bunting, crowds and flags.

    It was great fun.

  • 'Green Day' charity chosen by the Junior School

    Mon 23 May 2022

This morning in Junior School assembly, we looked at the work of 3 environmental charities: WWF, Water Aid and Greenpeace. After finding out more about what each of the charities do, we took a vote and decided that the charity we would like to support as part of our Green Day on Friday is Greenpeace!

A Year 5 child said, "It is important because they run campaigns which help in lots of different areas," and another child said, "their work is about the long term future and being sustainable for that."

Any money which we raise at the Juniors on Friday will be donated to this charity.

Find out more about Green Day here on our school calendar.

  • Weekly Roundup – Junior School

    Fri 20 May 2022

We’ve been enjoying lots of fun activities at the Junior school this week ðŸ˜Š

    Governor visit:

This Wednesday, our Governors came for a learning walk around the Infants and Juniors as part of their meeting. As the children weren’t there to explain their learning, teachers left out examples of books, our editing, marking and feedback approaches and dyslexia-friendly approaches. You can see some pictures of the things they looked at here.

Cam Densmore, our school SEND governor, has kindly written a message for everyone. Click here to find out more about what Cam’s role is as SEND governor.

    Vyshyvanka Day

Our Ukrainian pupils taught us about a special Ukrainian tradition. Yesterday was Vyshyvanka Day, which is held annually on the third Thursday of May.

It aims to preserve the folk traditions of wearing "vyshyvanka" - or embroidered Ukrainian national dress. Our St Saviour's Ukrainian children wore beautiful national clothes to celebrate. Click here to see pictures of this.

  • Weekly Roundup Infant School

    Fri 20 May 2022

In our Welcome to the week assembly on Monday, we welcomed Wendy one of our Governors to join us. Monday’s assemblies always focus on our school values and key themes for the week and we also share our Reader, Writer and Mathematician of the week from each KS1 class. The children share why they have been chosen.

Nadia said, ‘I have become more fluent in my reading.’

Frank said, ‘I am beginning to join my handwriting which helps me flow my ideas when I’m writing.’

Anna said, ‘I persevered with using arrays for repeated addition.’

We talked further about what helps us to learn in our classrooms.

Alivia said, ‘We use 3 B4 me, we use our brain, we use a book or resource, we ask a buddy then if we still are not sure we ask our teacher.’

Tiggy said, ‘We can use the maths resources.’

Sophie said, ‘We can look at the working walls.’

The children feel so proud of their achievements and its great hear the children talk about their skills, knowledge and next steps within these core subjects. On a Friday we have a Celebration assembly where we share certificates with children based on our Learning to Learn skills. These certificates are presented to children for being super Self Managers, Active Learners, Creative Thinkers, Reflective Thinkers and Team Workers. We hope to be able to invite you back into our Friday’s assemblies again soon.

    LGB

Our Local Governing Body met on Wednesday in person for the first time since lockdown! It gave us the opportunity to walk around both sites looking at the learning environment and children’s books  seeing the developments in our School Development Plan in action. They were really impressed with the quality of the children’s work and how the classrooms have been organised to support all our learners.

A message from Cam our SEND Governor

I am Cam and I have been a school governor for a year. l am the SEND link governor which means I support Sara (the SEND coordinator for both schools) in her role and report areas related to SEND to the Governing Body. I was previously an SEND coordinator, a deputy head and have a diploma in SEND but there is always more to learn!

I have really enjoyed working with Sara and seeing how the school is responding to a wide range of wonderfully individual needs that make up our St Saviours Family. As our community changes and grows we love welcoming children with all ranges of abilities - we are all special at something and we enjoy finding out what our children can teach us.

This last year we have initiated a parent questionnaire, looked at ways to make our school information more accessible and we are working on trying to build closer relations with families. Recently the Trust conducted a SEND review of all we do; it was a great exercise in looking at and evaluating our practice, identifying areas we do well and those we want to continue to grow. We were commended on the experiences that all children have, particularly those with SEND and how well the teachers and adults support pupils, as well as our school focus on dyslexia.?

We want to deepen the way we work with parents and families of those with SEND so if you’d like to be part of a working group, please email me camilla.densmore@stsaviours.bwmat.org or Sara Hibbs at sara.hibbs@stsaviours.bwmat.org.? I wish you a happy weekend!

Click here to see a picture of Cam

I hope you all have a good weekend.

    Best wishes

    Sophie
