UNICEF Rights Respecting School

We are a UNICEF Rights Respecting School

THE PRINCIPLES OF RIGHTS RESPECTING

A UNICEF Rights Respecting School is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practiced, respected, protected and promoted.

Children and the school community learn about children’s rights by putting them into practise everyday. All children and adults learn about the Convention; children’s rights becoming an integral part of the school’s learning.

Children and adults develop an ethos and language of rights and respect around the school. Children meaningfully participate in the life of the school; having opportunities to express their views, be listened to and influence change. Children become ambassadors for rights, raising awareness of issues both at school and in the wider context. Children are empowered to make informed decisions about their learning, health and well being.

The Rights Respecting School Award is not just about what children do but also importantly what adults do. In a Rights Respecting School children’s rights are promoted and realised and adults and children work towards this together.

We have created three statements that contain the essence of all 54 articles in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

This is to make the Convention more accessible and easier to use by the whole school community.

Please look out for our tags around the school and ask your child about them.
