St Saviour's Church Schools

A message from our governor Wendy Jupp

My name is Wendy and as part of my role with the local governing committee I chair the standards committee.  This is where a smaller group of governors meet with Mr Beament, Mrs Simmons and Sophie taking the opportunity to look at standards across the schools in more detail than we can during the termly governors meetings.

We look at a range of resources to ensure that the school is making good progress towards the goals set out for the school year and that this progress is reflected in the achievements of the children.

The committee looks at progress data for groups of children, such as year groups and those with special educational needs, comparing this with data from the trust.  The committee asks questions to ensure that additional support is provided by the school where required.

We look at the reports by trust representatives who have spent time in school.  In these we often find examples of the schools development plan in action.  We have seen good practice that the teachers have told governors about in our subject link meetings captured in the trust reports.

We look at examples of children’s work in their books.  Governors are involved in the planning and leadership of the schools.  This is where we see those plans coming to life and how they have had an impact on learning.

Next year the committee will go into classrooms during the school day.  This is an opportunity for governors to see things that we discuss in meetings, such as the oracy guidelines, taking place.
