Discovery Learning

Children in nursery are thinking about what they’d like to be when they grow up. They have been finding out about people’s jobs and when I was in there the children learnt the word “paramedic” and were talking about how they help people in the ambulance.

Clara said, ‘When I grow up I want to be a dog walker or a vet.’

Leo said, ‘I would like to be a spiderman or iron man.’

Isabel said, ‘I would like to be a nurse.’

Hayley described these jobs as Caring Code Superheroes!

Reception are learning about Spring time! Their role play has become a garden centre and they have been busy finding out lots about Spring.

Erin said, ‘In the springtime, flowers grow.’

Jackson said, ‘On the way to school I saw Cherry blossom and daffodils and we’re growing carrots in my daddy’s garden.’

In Key Stage 1 the Discovery title is Bath, Past and Present. We encourage the children to always share what they already know and then pose questions that they would like to find out more about.

Here are some things they have already discovered.

Michal said, ‘We learnt that King Henry VIII tried to destroy the Abbey but Queen Elizabeth 1st gave some money so that they could fix it.’

Marley said, ’In the past the signs were hanging down from the shops and cafés and not written on them. They got very dusty.
