Infant School - The 'Weekly Round-Up'

This week started with the children arriving in their odd socks to mark the start of anti bullying week. Key Stage 1 held an assembly where the children shared why they know that we are all different and that that is great! We talked about our Caring Code and how it helps to guide us through our daily lives in all that we do, and how it is there to help us all feel safe and happy at school.

The children demonstrated how ‘One kind word’ can spread through the school making everyone feel warm and fuzzy inside and creating smiles on everyone’s faces.

Grace said, ‘In our Jigsaw learning we passed the jigsaw piece and told everyone one kind word. Bethany told me that she liked my hairband.’

Marley told Leo that she likes playing with him.

Lucas D told Evie that he loved her, and Connie told Defne that she was her friend.

The reception children made a kindness tree with their gentle hands. They decorated odd socks and made friendship bracelets and heart shaped pictures to people who are kind to us.

Lyra said, ‘My brother is kind to me because he lets me play with his toys’.

Robyn said, ‘My mummy is kind because she reaches for toys on the top shelf.’

Year 1 went to visit the war memorial at the Junior school to support their writing about Remembrance Sunday and fed back to the older children. Years 1 and 2 produced some super writing.

Our Nursery children have been exploring the theme of Darkness. They have enjoyed reading the story Whatever Next by Jill Murphy. Murphy told me how the Bear went to the moon. Otto and Emmy shared a book all about Space with me at lunch time and wowed me with their knowledge about the planets in our solar system.

Today Ella suggested that it was time for some music and all the children wanted to dance. Finally, in the sandpit the dinosaur came to visit. The children are loving learning their names. Mia D’s favourite is a Brachiosaurus!

Year 2 were learning about multiplication and arrays in maths. On Monday you could find the children creating arrays around the school to help them solve these tricky calculations.

Anna told me that laying out the objects in arrays helped her to solve the maths calculations.
