St Saviour's Church Schools

Junior Weekly roundup

Dear Parents and Carers,

Weekly Roundup – Junior School

It’s been another busy week with lots of different activities taking place. To share just a few:

Assembly and Remembrance

We have been continuing to think about our school value of Respect in assemblies this week, and reflecting on why people show respect for people (and animals) who played a role in World War One. We have discussed the 4 different types of poppies people may choose to wear: red for remembrance and hope, white for peace, purple to honour animals (horses, dogs and even pigeons!) who were part of the war effort and black, to remember contributions of Black, African and Caribbean communities to the war. We thought specifically about George Strong, former Headteacher at St Saviour’s, who fought in the war, and discussed the ledger he completed at school about this time. Did you know we have a war memorial in the library at the Juniors, showing the names of all the members of the Larkhall community who fought and died during the War.

Year 6 Football tournament

The Year 6 girls who represented St Saviour’s at the football tournament on Thursday did a fantastic job! Miss Markwell said that staff there commented on how children from St Saviour’s were the most supportive (to each other and children from other teams) and showed the best team spirit. It was great to hear that they were saying to children on other teams, “Well done, you are such a good player, you are doing so well.” We are very proud of their efforts and kindness, and it is great to hear that this event has inspired one of the girls to join a football club! Click here and here to see pictures of the football tournament (and other exciting activities) on the Year 6 class pages. Thank you to Mrs Merrett who organised the event, and Miss Markwell who supported the children.
