Mental Health Week - Junior School Assembly Launch
This morning, we have been thinking about Mental Health week in assembly. We started by thinking about what we need to do to keep our bodies healthy. The children suggested things like:
-healthy diet
-sleep
-mindfulness
-drinking water
-exercise
We then moved on to thinking about what mental health is. Some of the children were surprised to discover that everyone has mental health. One child explained,
"Mental health is your state of mind."
We spoke about how everyone feels a range of emotions and this is really normal and healthy, but if you have been feeling sad or upset for a long time, some people might say your mental health is a bit low, and there are things you can do to improve this.
The children said if they thought a friend was feeling a bit low, they would:
-ask them if they wanted to play (we spoke about how some people find it hard to talk about their feelings, and this can be their way of saying I need a friend)
-ask if they were ok but give space - no-one likes to be crowded
-suggest an activity they knew the friend liked
If they were feeling low themselves, they said they would:
-talk to someone
-ask to join in a game
We were really impressed with the great ideas the children had about this, and am looking forward to seeing what they talk about in their activities this week.
