St Saviour's Church Schools

Weekly roundup – Infant school

When we arrived in school on Wednesday something magical had happened. There was a Christmas tree in the hall! As the days went on the magic spread around the school. The children have been learning about the Christmas story and why it is so special for Christians. They have been finding out about advent and how each Sunday leading up to Christmas a candle is lit.

I asked the children to tell me about Christmas.

Bethany said, ‘Christians celebrate Christmas because it was the birth of Jesus.’

Iris said, ’Christmas means to me that you spend time with family and friends.’

Lucas S said, ‘I’m looking forward to my presents.’

The children have been so sensible with the anticipation of Christmas and all the excitement it brings, and they are managing to contain this excitement in order to rehearse their songs and practise their performances and continue their learning.

Other news this week.

In Nursery Otto found a surprise in his milk! They opened it and it was frozen. The children discussed how cold it had been outside and how the milk must have frozen. They had a discussion about temperature and how liquids can freeze.

Sebastian had lots of fun creating marble runs in the water play to see the flow of the water.

And Emmeline and Ella looked after sick sea creatures whilst playing in the big sand pit.

In Reception children continued their maths learning in their outdoor play. Pam had fun playing football and they kept score of the goals by putting a bean bag in a bucket. The children also enjoyed a cosy time around the fire at Forest school this week.

Lyra said, ‘The pop corn went popping when it went in the fire.’

Years 1 and 2 have been finding out all about space and have written their own letters to Tim Peake.

Joe asked the question, ‘What do you like about space?

Gabriel asked, ‘What is space like?

Kiko asked, ‘What did you live in when you were training under water?

And Luca asked, ‘How did you eat food in space? We look forward to hearing the answers from Tim Peake if he is able to respond to our letters.
