St Saviour's Church Schools

Weekly Roundup – Infant School

The weeks are flying by as we say goodbye to January and welcome February. The mild weather this week certainly had an essence of spring.

We started the week with an assembly focusing on Chinese New Year and the year of the Tiger. The children found out about the twelve animals and the race that they had to determine the order that they appear. We explored how Chinese New Year is celebrated and we discussed similarities and differences to New Year celebrations of January 1st.

Luca said, ‘Red is a lucky colour.’

Tom said, ‘Chinese families spring clean their homes to say out with the old and to welcome the new.’

Reception children made red lanterns they represent life and a prosperous business. They are also said to ‘light the way’ as they hang. We also discovered that many members of the school team were born in the year of the Tiger including myself. Multiples of twelve… you may be able to work out how old I am…be kind!

I know I say this often but I do feel privileged to be able to spend time in nursery. The children are gaining confidence and independence each week that goes by. Lara has posted a helpful YouTube clip on how to help your child put on their own coat.

In KS1 children are getting increasingly excited about their trip to Radstock next week and we look forward to the photos of them dressed as Victorian children finding out more about school life, home life and children at work. Photographs really bring the past to life and they enable the children to have meaningful discussions and questions about the hard and often dangerous conditions that children during Victorian times worked in.

We are so lucky to have the green spaces around the school. Pauls Garden offers a wealth of learning opportunities and this week Reception enjoyed story time outside with Tim and Jane (click here
