St Saviour's Church Schools

Weekly roundup – Infants

What a busy week!

The children have settled back into the rhythm and life of school. I’ve loved visiting the classes throughout the week and hearing the children’s enthusiasm for their new Discovery plans.

Queen Victoria has also had a prominent presence around the school this week. Here are some of the children’s portraits of her and some facts that they have found interesting so far. Click here for the pictures.

‘She invented the white wedding dress and Christmas tree.’ Kiko

‘Her real name is Alexandrina.’ Anna P

‘She spoke English, German and a little Italian and Latin too.’ Amelia B

‘She was the first monarch to go on a train.’ Ezra

This week we also had a special delivery. 1080 new reading books!

You may remember that we were able to access some funding to enable us to replenish our fully decodable reading books in line with our revised Bug Club phonics scheme. We now have fully decodable books matched to each new sound taught until the end of phase 5. This means children in year 1 and beyond can continue to build on their decoding skills and develop fluency with increasing confidence.

You can access to all of these books digitally via your Active Learn login. Reading is an absolute passion at St Saviours and teaching children to read and helping to inspire a lifelong love of reading is at the heart of all we do so we are really excited about this delivery. We will be sending out shortly some information about the different types of books that your child may bring home to spark the love of reading.

We’ve really welcomed the sparkling winter sun and blue skies that have been present this week. It’s made a change from the constant drizzle that we seem to have had and the children have made the most of it during playtimes and forest school sessions.

I want to end this week’s round up by taking a moment to think about some of our children who are home learning this week; to wish them well and to let them know that we can’t wait to be welcoming them back soon.
