Weekly Roundup - Junior School

This week we has been a busy week, and we have been working hard and enjoying the sunshine.

On Monday, Sophie joined us at the Juniors to teach Y5 some poetry and Mr Beament worked with all of the Year 5 children to think about body image in PSHE. Sophie told me how much she enjoyed hearing all of Year 5’s views about the Charles Causley poetry they were studying, and Mr Beament said how well the Year 5 children worked in groups to discuss how they would reply to text messages about body image worries. This lesson is part of our PSHE Jigsaw unit – you can find out more about Jigsaw here (scroll down for the part about PSHE). Lou has also joined us at the Juniors this week and spent time in Year 3. She told me how impressed she was with the children’s enthusiasm for their learning, and that she had had a lovely day with Year 3.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, I have been lucky enough to spend some time in the Nursery. It was very exciting – there were trays of slime and sprouts, and also lots of watering happening too! Click here for pictures of this exciting fun.

We’ve been celebrating science week this week, and there have been interesting activities going on across the school (Ms Birkett tells me there were even some visiting worms in Year 4!) Year 6 worked hard as engineers to build towers using marshmallows and spaghetti. Click here for pictures of this.

Year 3 have been working hard on their Egyptian moving models. Click here for pictures and more information

Year 5 have been demonstrating fantastic teamwork in forest school. Click here for pictures of what they have been making.

Finally, we have been so impressed with the independent fundraising which some of the children have been doing to raise money for Ukraine. We’ve seen cake sales, adopt a teddy and bracelet making, and think this is such a kind thing to spend your time doing. Well done everyone.
