Weekly roundup Juniors

Dear Parents and Carers,

Weekly Roundup – Junior School

Black History Month

This week has been another great week at the Juniors. We have been thinking about Black History Month in class, looking at important figures and discussing them. Year 5 learnt about Chris Ofili, a British painter who is best known for including elephant dung in his paintings! Year 5 created some paintings in the style of his work (no dung included!) – click here to see them.

Fantastic academic results

We have received some published results from the Government about our KS2 results last year. Progress and attainment in Reading, and progress in Writing was significantly above national and in the highest 20% in 2022. Also, the attainment of Greater Depth writing was significantly above national and in the highest 20% in 2022. For Maths, progress and attainment was in line with national. Click here to see a summary of these results (the Infant KS1 results were also fantastic too)

Our assemblies

Miss Drake led our Monday assembly this week, and we talked about our assembly structure and why we have assemblies. The children reflected brilliantly on this, linking the four parts of our assembly (candle, window, mirror and door) to sections in previous assemblies this term. Click here to find out more about the structure and what the children said. (The new song mentioned in the article is called ‘My Lighthouse’ by Rend Collective – have a listen on YouTube, it’s very catchy).

Links with the Holburne Museum

Saviour's Junior School has just become a Holburne Partner School. As one of a few selected schools, we are excited to be involved in this partnership and to explore the various opportunities this will create for the children.

As part of this partnership we have been offered

FREE museum entry THIS October half term! Available to claim from 22nd-30th October.

Each pupil can bring up to 2 adults to the museum, completely free (just give the name of your school at the front desk)! See the collection and new exhibitions - Degas/Rodin sculptures, a room of hand-drawn animations and enjoy the surrounding park and new children’s play area.

Coming up:

Parent’s Evening: Next term, we will be holding parent’s evening on Monday 14th November and Thursday 17th November, from 3.45 – 6.30. Information about how to book a space will come out after the half term.

Don’t forget to subscribe to our online school calendar. Our calendar is the place where you can check for events, term dates and INSET days.

For a window into our school please follow us on social media. We regularly update our Twitter page and Facebook page.

I hope you all have a relaxing half term and enjoy the break.

Best wishes,

Mrs Simmons
