  Last week we had a visit from the rock band - Rocktopus.

• The Archie Project

  Year Four are undertaking an exciting new project called ‘The Archie Project’.  

   

  The Archie Project is an exciting intergenerational dementia awareness project that links local primary schools, care homes/ sheltered housing schemes, businesses/ services and community members to ultimately dispel the fear and stigma often associated with dementia and create more dementia friendly communities.

   

  On Wednesday 14^th November, Fiona Mahoney of the charity Reminiscence Learning came to school and launched the project with the children. She introduced the children to Archie, a scarecrow who has been diagnosed with dementia. She then provided dementia awareness training by using child-friendly language and answered the children’s questions. 

   

  Over the next couple of weeks the children will each receive an Archie workbook and storybook to assist them with their understanding of Dementia and begin to learn how they can help members of the community.

   

  St. Saviour’s Juniors have established a link with Larkhall Springs Nursing Home and intends to take small groups (8-10 children) to visit the residents on a regular basis.  Research has shown that this is very beneficial for the elderly residents as well as the children and we hope the experience is something the children will remember for life, whilst helping them address the school values of respect and empathy. 

   

  We would like to thank The Bath Rotary Club and our PTA who have jointly funded the project this year, without whom it could not take place.
