  • Weekly Roundup – Junior School

    Fri 29 Apr 2022

Welcome back to Term 5! We’ve had a great start to the term and been up to lots of exciting things.

Year 4 visit to the church

Year 4 visited St Saviour’s Church earlier in the week and were able to complete activities at different stations around the Church. Click here to see pictures of this. Thank you to the team at the church for welcoming us.

    SEND visit

Yesterday, we welcomed Diane Anderson and Kim Lloyd to the St Saviour’s schools to look at the great support we have in place for all children at St Saviour’s Schools. Sara, Sophie, Mr Beament and myself took our visitors around both schools, and we were lucky enough to see lots of the learning going on during the morning. Our visitors said they were impressed with the respectful relationships they saw children demonstrating and could see that grown ups in school know all of the children really well (this is something I see everyday so it is really nice for a visitor to notice this in such a short space of time). Some children explained about things which support them with their learning, for example a writing slope, a wobble cushion or extra thinking time. We were really proud of the way all of the children demonstrated our School Values and the Caring Code so brilliantly for our visitors.

    Celebration Assembly

Today in celebration assembly, we enjoyed some singing, sharing Free Reader certificates and celebrating our Rockstars of the Week. Click here to see pictures of this. We also shared a wonderful piece of work from a child in Year 6. She has been so inspired by the Year 6 English work based on the book, ‘The Lion above the Door’ by Onjali Rauf, that she completed her own piece of work about this. She has made a factfile about Elizabath Choy, the Singaporean war hero who was a volunteer nurse. Year 6 are remembering forgotten heroes of the war from different nationalities using this book as a stimulus, and when Onajli Rauf heard Year 6 have been reading this book, she has tweeted Year 6 to say, “How wonderful to hear. Hope you all have many an exciting discussion as you go. Thank you for honouring the s/heroes of our pasts so.”

  • Weekly Roundup - Infant School

    Fri 29 Apr 2022

    Welcome back!

I hope that you all had a good break and have returned for term 5 with renewed energy. I know that I have a springier spring in my step!

The children have returned relaxed and happy and eager to find out about their new Discovery Plans.

In Nursery the children are finding out all about Growth and their role play has turned into a Garden Centre. Ella said, ‘I like the flowers in the garden centre. I’ve been to lots with my mummy. We go to the café and have some food.’

Reception are learning about Animals and their role play has become a Pet Shop. The children are so excited about their trip to Bath City Farm next week and they have come up with some questions to ask the farmer.

‘How do you grow the crops?’ Rupert

‘Where do the animals go when it is cold?’ Harriet

‘What food do the animals eat?’ Tommy

We look forward to hearing all about their trip and the answers to these questions next week.

Year 1 and 2 are finding out all about Scientist and Inventors. They have painted pictures of some famous scientists. Click here to see them.

George said, ‘Without scientists and Inventors the world would be like the olden days and there would be lots of rats!’

Ezra said, ‘There would be no medicine.’

Amelia said, ‘There would be no electricity and that means no TV!’

Emil said, ‘There would be no medicine!’

Ask your child about who they painted and why they chose to paint them.

It is wonderful that our Caring Code spreads beyond school. Click here to see another inspired activity to raise money for Ukraine.

On a Friday we have our Celebration Assembly where we celebrate all sort of achievements. We have our Learning to Learn Awards of the week. We recognise the class with the highest attendance. We celebrate achievements out of school, for example, swimming, gymnastic, football, Rainbows, Brownies or Beavers to name a few. We also recognise St Saviours Caring Code Champions. These are children who uphold the school values in everything they do; showing kindness and understanding; respect to each other and all members of the school community; and trying their best by persevering when things go wrong, showing resilience and determination. We look forward to Australia class joining us in our Celebration Assembly soon.

Click here to see the Caring Code Champion’s for last term.

Finally, it’s the Larkhall Festival this Bank Holiday weekend and there are lots of activities going on around Larkhall and Alice Park advertised on posters around the perimeters of school site and Local Look. See here for support for Alice Park.

I hope that you have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend and I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 3rd May.

    Best wishes

    Sophie

  • We love Thrive time

    Fri 29 Apr 2022

This week in Thrive Time, some children made bracelets using letter beads. They had to think of a creation and find the right letters themselves.

They also played with slime and adding gems to the mix for some sensory Thrive time.

The children were amazing and worked very well together!

  • Alice Park

    Wed 27 Apr 2022

The Alice Park Committee have been working hard over recent months to begin the process to refresh the play area in Alice Park. Alice Park is not technically a B&NES Council play area, so it has often missed out on necessary investment.

The Alice Park Committee are looking for funding opportunities to update this important play spot that so many use. We have recently identified two play suppliers and asked them to create mood boards for the community to see. We want local people of all ages to give us your views on what kind of play facilities you would like in Alice Park. We really want to hear from all ages and sections of the community.

The consultation dates for the Alice Park Play Area have been set and they are:

    Monday 2nd May 2022 1-3pm Alice Park ( Larkhall Festival weekend )

Tuesday 10th May 2022 3-4.30pm New Oriel Hall

Wednesday 18th May 2022 3-4.30pm Outside St Saviours Schools Spring Lane

    Friday 3rd June 2022 12-2pm Alice Park ( Queens Jubilee Event )

So please come along and let us know your views.

  • Weekly roundup – Infants

    Fri 08 Apr 2022

Last week of term 4 and what a week it’s been!

On Wednesday we had our Opal Final Audit and we are so pleased to say that we have been awarded the Platinum award which is the top award and in line with the Junior school. Our schools are double Platinum!!!  Rachel Murray who supported us through our journey said these kind words.

‘Your commitment to play was so evident through the lovely, inclusive feeling and happy,?calm atmosphere on your playground.

For your statistics, you are in a group of around 100 schools out of 20,000 in the UK to achieve?this level of excellence.’

A huge thank you to our Play team, staff, governors and of course the children who make play at St Saviours so amazing. Click her for photos

Also on Wednesday, Faye Bertham (assistant director of education in the MAT) visited the St Saviour’s schools. Louise, our Science Lead, took Faye on a Science walk through the school celebrating how scientific knowledge and skills build from Nursery to Year 2.

Today we have shared messages of love and kindness thinking specifically about the situation in Ukraine. Thank you to River in year 5 for this great idea. Click here to see pictures of the Infant and Junior children together sharing their messages.??

We have been so impressed with the independent fundraising ideas the children have been carrying out. Click here to find out more about one of these fundraising projects.?? As part of this we would like to collect donations. If you would like to make a donation which would be passed on to UNICEF who are working to support families in Ukraine, please do so via SchoolComms over the Easter break!

We have been kindly gifted two trees for the Infant school and two for the Junior school, one from BANES and one from Bath in Bloom as part of their celebrations for the Queen’s Jubilee. Mr Beament donned his gardening attire to help the Green Team and School Councillors plant the trees. They were very excited to find a pot buried deep in the ground. We will let you know if it turns out to be valuable and on the Antiques Road Show. Click here to see pictures of the trees being planted.??

On Monday we had our Easter service at the church. The children impressed me greatly with how they walked to and from church, sat respectfully in the church, and the confidence with which the children who spoke, stood and delivered their messages to the audience. Thanks to Rob and Rachel for hosting us Click here to see pictures of our service and the Junior service.?
