  • Archie Day

    Fri 18 Feb 2022

It was Year 4’s Archie Day on Thursday 17th February, the children learnt more about this important project and for the first time in two years the St Saviour's Archie team were able to go to the care home (even if it was just into the garden). When in the front garden of Oriel Lodge they sung a song to the residents who remained inside – this was a magical moment for both the children and residents.

The Archie Project is an exciting intergenerational dementia awareness project that links local primary schools, care homes/ sheltered housing schemes, businesses/ services and community members to ultimately dispel the fear and stigma often associated with dementia and create more dementia friendly communities.

St. Saviour’s Juniors have established link with this project and have been involved for many years. Before the pandemic, Year 4 children would have visited the care home on a weekly basis to play games and have fun with the residents. Research has shown that this is very beneficial for the elderly residents as well as the children and with the experiences as something the children will remember for life, whilst helping them promote the school values of respect and empathy.

As we emerge from the pandemic we are finding new ways to share experiences with the residents through creating and send them work, video calling and now singing from their garden!

"I felt like the residents were really happy and cheerful as ever.  I felt excited when I was dancing."
    Evie

"I felt so happy and excited. I really wanted to talk to them. I was so pleased to see them smiles and I loved the singing. I loved seeing Jude's neighbour and to know that she remembered him."

    Edith

"I felt happy when we were signing. I felt excited when Caroline was joining in."

     Iuli

"When we got there, I felt nervous. At the end I felt emotional and sad, but happy sad!."

    Harry

"I felt happy when we arrived, overjoyed when we were singing and a little bit sad when we left."

    Eilidh

"I felt happy because I saw someone I knew."

    Reuben

" I felt happy, relaxed and energetic. I felt pleased to meet them."

  • URGENT AND IMPORTANT: SCHOOL CLOSURE TOMORROW

    Thu 17 Feb 2022

Unfortunately, following our most recent communication, the Trust has been in contact with us to say all Trust schools will need to close tomorrow as all of these schools fall within the red and amber warning areas. This means St Saviour’s Nursery, Infant and Junior Schools are closed tomorrow (Friday 18th February).

We are sorry about the short notice for this and thank you for your understanding.

    Home learning tomorrow:

This will be via the home learning pages on the website (https://www.stsavioursbath.co.uk/home-learning/), and is already available for you. Due to the short notice, there will be no live or pre-recorded sessions on Teams tomorrow.

However, if you have any problems during the day, please email either infantenquiries@stsaviours.bwmat.org or  juniorenquiries@stsaviours.bwmat.org with any questions. These will be passed on to the relevant teacher.

We hope after an unusual start you have a restful and relaxing half term.

We look forward to welcoming you all back for Term 4 on Monday 28th February.

  • Our FREE Community Take Away

    Tue 15 Feb 2022

With the cost of living going up some families are finding paying for food and energy difficult. Every Tuesday morning (during term time) we will continue to offer our ‘Free Community Take Away’ outside our Infant School.

We have just re-signed our agreement with FareShare South West and will continue to offer our take away for the rest of this academic year.

Our families and local community are more than welcome to visit on a Tuesday and take what you need for FREE. This is quite popular, so we advise you to come along before lunchtime, bring your own carrier bags and please only take what you need.

  • Weekly Roundup – Junior School

    Fri 11 Feb 2022

This week we have been so busy! We have been marking ‘Mental Health Week’ with lots of different activities. Find out about the theme of Mental Health Week here and about our launch assembly here. I was so impressed with the children’s thoughtful ideas and knowledge about how they could help each other that were shared during this assembly (you can see these ideas written on the posters in the pictures).

Children have been carrying out activities in class linked to this theme. Find out what Year 5 have been learning about here and what Year 4 have been learning about here. In assembly today, we shared our learning based around this mental health. Year 6 told us about the book they have been reading, ‘The Truth Fairy’ by Matt Haig, and shared with us all one of the main messages of the book: it is important to know sad to know happy too. A great message to keep in mind.

On Tuesday this week, we welcomed visitors from the School for Inspiring Talents in Devon to see our OPAL play and learn more about our whole class guided reading. They were so impressed with what they saw, and said, “St Saviour’s is really nurturing. The children were so kind, friendly and welcoming to us – we loved being offered snacks in the mud kitchen and joining in with four square games.” Well done everyone. • Weekly roundup – Infant School

    Fri 11 Feb 2022

It’s been another busy week at the Infant school with a focus on Mental Health and Wellbeing and KS1’s visit to Radstock museum.

To explore our Wellbeing we read two books. ‘The Colour Monster’ and ‘Have you filled a Bucket today?’ ‘The Colour Monster’ helps to identify and explore emotions and ‘Have you filled a bucket today?’ is a wonderful book that shows how we can have positive impacts on each other by doing little things that help to fill our buckets of happiness and grow resilience.

In Reception, children have been thinking about what makes helps us to stay healthy. Click here

Olive said, ‘To stay healthy we need to not have too much screen time.’

Stanley said, ‘Have a good nights sleep.’

Molly said, ‘Tell a grown up how you are feeling.’

In Year 1 the children talked about support networks identifying who was special and who supported them. They drew hot air balloons and put around the edge people who lift them up. Click here

Edward said, ‘I have lots of people who support me and who are special. I think about people who are no longer with us too.’

Joe said, ‘Our friends support us. They can make us feel happy.’

Elliot said, ‘Yoga helps our wellbeing. It keeps us fit and that helps.’

In Year 2 children made their own growing together bingo boards and then took part in some cosmic yoga. Click here

Tiger Rose said, ‘Our support network is people who supports us all of the time.’

Tom said, ‘Good friends will be there no matter what.’

Iris said, ‘People helping you no matter what.’

In other news KS1 We stepped back in time to the Victorians this week. Children had a wonderful time at Radstock museum. They were shocked and aghast to hear of the dunces hat, the cane and the strict rules that Victorian children had to endure at school. Click here

Sophie said, I liked the school room because we got to write on slates and it was fun.’

Marley said, ‘The classroom was the best. The teacher was very strict.’

Amelia B said, ‘The information about the canary in a cage down the mine was the best. If the canary stopped singing then they knew to get out of the mine quickly. The canary was dead so that was bad for the canary but good for everyone else.’

Benji said, ‘I enjoyed going upstairs to see the artifacts. The lady snapped the tortoiseshell by accident. She said that she might get sacked!’

In reception’s forest school they were joined by a large dinosaur. When I asked the children if a dinosaur came Tommy said, ‘Yes, I asked for a dinosaur and we made a ginormous one out of sticks and leaves. It was an Amargasaurus!’ Click here

I also stepped back in time to December during my visit to nursery this week. I had such fun. Korey, Brooke and Maddie formed a band with me and we sang jingle bells (initiated by the children) with gusto for about 10 minutes. We were rocking it so much that William came to join us. We played drums, glockenspiel, shakers and bells. It was great!
