  • Being a good friend

    Mon 23 Nov 2020
The infant children have been exploring friendship and have asked the question:

‘What does it mean to be a good friend?’

    Being a good friend means…

    - looking after each other and sharing
    - being kind to each other and including people in your games
    - including people who want to play with you
    - spreading friendship to other people
    - taking turns and sharing
    - making sure that we all feel happy in our games
    - listening to each other

We know that if there is a problem we can talk to a grown up.
  • Laptop Library now available for all our families

    Fri 20 Nov 2020

Our laptop library is now ready to go. If your child is in isolation you can now access a school laptop from our laptop library.

You can make a request for one at either school office in person, on the phone or via email.

In most cases the laptop will have to be collected but if this is not possible (e.g. due to full household isolation) we will try our best to get it delivered to you.

Huge thank you to the schools’ PTAs for supporting this project.

Information on how this will work can be found on our website in the ‘Key Information’ section under ‘Policies and Documents’ or by clicking here

  • Birthday Parties - St Saviour’s are ready to party!

    Fri 13 Nov 2020

COVID has ended a lot of children’s hopes of a cool superhero party, tea party or football party this year. We are in a privileged position to be set up in a way that allows us to have groups of children in a safe environment ready to party!

Starting on Friday 4th December and every term for as long as COVID restrictions are in place we will be having a birthday party in every class with music and party games as we celebrate every child that has had a Birthday that term.

Each class will have a small budget to plan these parties and this has kindly been supported by the school’s PTAs.

To make this possible the following will be in place:

    • Parties will last 1 hour and take place on the afternoon of each party day
    • If children want to, they can come in non-uniform for all party days (please don’t bring a change of clothes)
    • No games, items, birthday cards or presents from home to be brought in – we have everything we need in school
    •

The party dates are as follows:

Friday 4th December – a party for every child that has missed their birthday party in the year 2019/20 so far or has a birthday in December

Friday 12th February – a party for every child that had a birthday in January or February

Friday 26th March - a party for every child that had a birthday in March or due a birthday in the first two weeks of April

Friday 28th May - a party for every child that had a birthday during the last two weeks of April and the whole of May

Friday 16th July - a party for every child that had a birthday in June or July or will have a birthday over the Summer.

We can’t wait to celebrate birthdays with the children this year – it’s party time! 😊

  • Odd Socks Day, Monday 16th November

    Thu 12 Nov 2020

The E-Team (Equalities Team) have been planning activities to get involved with Anti-Bullying Week next week.

On Monday 16th November, the E-Team would like to invite the St Saviour's schools to take part in Odd Socks Day. Odd Socks Day is designed to be fun! It is an opportunity for children to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique! Alternatively, you may like to wear jazzy tights. This will help raise awareness of anti-bullying.

There is no pressure on the children to wear the latest fashion or for parents to buy expensive socks!  All they have to do to take part is wear odd socks to school, it couldn’t be simpler (no donations required - please do not bring money to school)!

    Best wishes,

    E-Team

  • Poppy collection - Royal British Legion Bath

    Tue 10 Nov 2020

    Poppy Collection

We have been unable to sell poppies in the normal way this year due to COVID restrictions.

Therefore, this afternoon or tomorrow morning we will issue every child with a poppy. If you would like to make a voluntary contribution, please go to Schoolcomms (School Gateway) by Monday 16th November, where you are able to donate a minimum of 50p, which we will transfer to the Bath Royal British Legion.

We are unable to accept any cash donations at present.

  • Remembrance Day

    Sun 08 Nov 2020

The St Saviour’s Schools will be commemorating service men and women who have died in conflicts since the onset of World War One next week.

Mr George Strong was the Headteacher of St Saviour’s over 100 years ago. He left his role in 1916 to fight in the war and was killed in action in January 1917.

Over the last few years we have studied and researched his story and the story of other Larkhall residents that served in World War One. Three years ago Mrs Offler and Mrs Merrett (Junior School Teachers) spent a whole term with the Year 6 children researching and writing an end of year performance on the life of Mr George Strong and this work was supported by a National Lottery Grant - it was an amazing and special performance.

Since this performance we have continued to use the research every year to learn about Mr George Strong and share his story with the children.

Attached are four photos. One photo is of the memorial that can be found at the Junior School. This shows the list of Larkhall residents that served and died in World War One. The second and third photos are photos are of the school ledger for 1916/1917 (over 100 years old and still stored in the school archives). They show entries when Mr George Strong announced he was leaving to fight in the war and when the education officer came to the school to announce that Mr Strong was killed in action. The last photo is a photo of Mr George Strong.

‘Went The Day Well? We died and never knew but well and ill. England we died for you!’

  • Face coverings and clubs  – from Thursday 5th November

    Tue 03 Nov 2020

Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we navigate another challenging change for our community and move into a new lockdown on Thursday.

    Face Coverings and Masks

We have made the decision to make face masks or face coverings mandatory on school grounds during drop off and pick up, from Thursday 5th November.

This means that during pick up and drop off all adults and secondary school aged children should wear a face covering on the school site including the playground, unless you have a good reason not to (as stated on the web link below).

Further information can be found here:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/face-coverings-when-to-wear-one-and-how-to-make-your-own/face-coverings-when-to-wear-one-and-how-to-make-your-own

We would also like to strongly advise that masks are also worn on the pavements and roads around school.

Can we also remind families of the following rules that were sent to families last term:

    1. Please observe social distancing where possible! We understand that some entrances, and pavements are narrow and therefore families will need to take their time, give way to each other and be careful when walking through these areas.
    2. Use space! When on school site please use all the available space on the playground and in the car parks to ensure families can wait at least two metres apart. Please enter the school sites and move away from entrances into the available space rather than gathering near a school site entrance, classroom or school door.
    3. Driving! Please avoid driving children to school. If you have to drive, please park away from school and walk the final distance. Families ARE NOT permitted to use the school car parks to either park in or use as turning points.
    4. One adult! Where possible can parents and carers please pick up individually, rather than as a family this will help reduce the number of adults around the school grounds.

Clubs – James Gray Football, Get Sported and Todo el Mundo Languages

After careful consideration, these clubs will have to be postponed from Thursday 5th November, through lockdown. We know this is a huge disappointment to the children, club providers and families. As soon as lockdown is relaxed and the guidance allows, we will offer providers the opportunity to restart these clubs.

Our in school Breakfast Clubs and SuperPirates After School clubs will continue to offer childcare unless Government guidance changes.

    Further updates

We are still waiting for possible updates from the Government regarding any other changes that schools will need to implement from Thursday.

As explained in my previous email, if further changes to our systems and risk assessment are required, I will communicate these to families.

    Best wishes,

    Mr J Beament

    Executive Headteacher

  • Lockdown

    Mon 02 Nov 2020

We are looking forward to welcoming children back to St Saviour's tomorrow (Tuesday).

As announced on Saturday, England will go into a national lockdown from this Thursday. The significant difference from the previous lockdown in March is that schools will remain OPEN for all children.

Our COVID risk assessment (that can be found on the policy section of our website) will remain in place.

If we receive further guidance from the DfE this week we will update our risk assessment and send out communication to families as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued support,
