  • Year 1 Maths

    Tue 30 Nov 2021

Last week the children were working really hard in their maths lessons.

They were using manipulatives to help them understand number bonds and calculations. The children are really good at proving their understanding with concrete resources.

    Top maths Year 1!

  • Weekly Roundup – Junior School

    Fri 26 Nov 2021

This week has been a great week for stories! We kicked off in assembly on Monday with a story under the visualiser by Oliver Jeffers called, 'The way back home'. We recognised themes about our school values of respect, resilience, integrity and enthusiasm in the story, as a little boy and alien helped each other find their way home from the moon (with a few challenges along the way). We loved the picture where they shook hands when they met.

Year 3 have been working hard on telling the Christmas story for their Nativity, 'There's Only One King', and you can see a sneaky peek of their rehearsals here. I've been lucky enough to hear them practicing in the afternoons from my Office- I promise you are in for a treat!

We also took an exciting delivery of some forest themed furniture for our beautifully wallpapered forest library! Mrs Offler has great plans for putting the final touches our library to make it the most relaxing, cosy space for curling up with a book. There are no pictures for you yet (we're not quite finished), but keep your eyes peeled for future updates!

Dont forget- the Junior book fair continues today and on Monday and Tuesday on the top playground. Feel free to come along and have a browse!

    Also this week:

    • We learned about Thanksgiving- you can find out more here.

    • I was lucky enough to spend the day on Thursday at the Infants with Sophie, Mr Beament, Sara and a visitor (Faye Bertham) looking at all of their fantastic learning- you can see a snapshot of the things we saw here.

    • The year 6 boys took part in the football tournament – you can find out more here.

    • Year 4 enjoyed a relaxing yoga session: click here

  • Weekly Roundup – Infant School

    Fri 26 Nov 2021

The week started with the wonderful bedtime story. It was lovely to see all the children’s excited faces as they returned to school in the dark. The teachers had done a fantastic job of making their classrooms magical with ‘log fires’, fairy lights, lamps and blankets and they were expert story tellers, capturing the imagination of all the children. A huge thank you to the PTA and volunteers who helped make it even more special with the delivery of hot chocolate and biscuits for the children and refreshments for the adults.

Thomas said, ‘I loved bedtime story. I got to dip my biscuit in my hot chocolate!’

On Thursday we had a visit from Faye Bertham who is the Assistant Director for Education in the Bath and Wells Multi Academy Trust. Her role is to look at Teaching and Learning in the Trust schools.

We had a fantastic day showing Faye around. We saw children making penguin cakes in nursery, a celebration tuff tray that inspired some Christmas singing. Team work, problem solving how to create a ball run using a variety of tubes. Children using their phonic knowledge to decode words for reading across the school and some challenging maths focusing on problem solving and reasoning with the 5 x table. I’m proud to say (but not surprised) that we saw the Caring Code in action wherever we went throughout the school!

Luca told me that the best learning ever this week was the Maths sessions. The 5 x table has definitely enthused the Year 2 children.

Today a member of Year 3 shared Thanksgiving treats with her class and teachers. She explained to everyone what Thanksgiving is all about, and that she was sharing treats with everyone because she is thankful to spend time with them every day and for the help they give her.

  • Bedtime story!

    Tue 23 Nov 2021

The Infant children enjoyed a magical bedtime story this week.

This is a tradition that we have not been able to do over the last two years and are delighted it was able to happen again this week.

The children were very exited to return to school at 6pm in their pyjamas and enjoy a hot chocolate and bedtime story with their teachers.

Thank you to the PTA for organising this and arranging all the yummy refreshments.
