  • Whole school Junior Art project

    Fri 20 Oct 2023

This week, we worked together on a whole school art project. We based our work on the piece by Damien Hirst which was kindly donated to us during the lockdown (huge thanks to Emil's dad for organsing this). We took the motif of the butterfly and heart and each created our own, using either warm colours or cool colours. We used oil pastels, crayons and water colours.

Every single heart and butterfly is different, and we have put them together to make this beautiful picture. Karter said, "It doesn't matter what colours you have used, all of the pieces stand out," and Ellis explained how nice it was to see all of the work together.

  • Year 5 (Eiffel Class) completing an investigation in Science into dissolving.

    Mon 16 Oct 2023

Year 5 have been looking at the unit of Materials in Science. As part of this, they have explored the changes in materials. They looked at what we mean by the work 'dissolve'.

Then Year 5 explored how this process can be sped up or slowed down using different strategies. They then used what they learned about dissolving sugar and salt to plan an investigation into dissolving jelly!

As part of this they learnt to use the Scientific terms: solutesolventsolution and saturate.

  • A message from our Governors

    Mon 16 Oct 2023

It has been a busy first term in both our schools!

    Ethos

We have had SIAMS inspections at both the infants and juniors schools this term.

As a Church of England school embedding a Christian ethos within the vision and values of the school is an important part of building a school environment where every child values their voice.

    Standards

Our Standards committee met and discussed elements of the schools development plans for the year. They also undertook a learning walk to see how pupils are settling into their new classes.

    New faces

Our reception team have welcomed our new pupils at the infants  and it has been lovely to see how well they have all settled in to school life.

In the juniors the new year 3’s have joined their year 4 classmates in Sirry, Turner and Leski classes. The  year 4s have done a great job showing their new classmates the ropes as they get used to a new site.

We also have new faces on our governing team.

Mark Evitts has joined as our new chair of Resources Committee and Health & Safety link governor and Lucy Powell has joined as chair of Ethos and link governor for OPAL.

We also have a new Co-Chair of Governors, Andy Dillow. Andy was already an active member of our governing committee and brings a wealth of experience to support the continued development of our schools as places where all pupils can thrive.

Find out more and get involved

If you would like to find out more about any of our governors and the work we do please  take a look at our pages on the school website https://www.stsavioursbath.co.uk/governors/

We have 2 vacancies on our Local Governing Committee - one for an infant parent governor and one for a foundation governor. If you would be interested in finding out more about these opportunities please get in touch with Amy.McNaughton@stsaviours.bwmat.org and Andy.Dillow@stsaviours.bwmat.org

It was lovely so many parents and carers could join us and celebrate with us! I'm sure you'll be singing Cauliflower's Fluffy for a while!

Donations for Julian House are still being collected - please drop any more donations at the Junior office next week.

  • Outdoor Learning in Reception

    Mon 09 Oct 2023

    Outdoor learning in Reception

We are having great fun during our outdoor learning sessions. We went on a minibeast hunt to the Willow Garden. We looked under logs and leaves and found slugs, woodlice, worms, snails, spiders and a shield bug. We sang songs in the log circle and enjoyed exploring the garden with our friends.
Next week we are going on an Autumn scavenger hunt. If children would like to collect and bring in different colour leaves and conkers, next Thursday afternoon we will be making leaf artwork based on the work of Andy Goldsworthy.

    Woodland creature cuddly toy request

Do you have any unwanted woodland creature cuddly toys (hedgehogs, squirrels, foxes, birds etc)? Louise is putting together a collection of cuddly toys for the children to use during outdoor learning sessions.

Any donations would be gratefully received.
