  • School update - Home Learning

    Mon 30 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope the first week at home has been good, you have enjoyed the sun and managed to get some fresh air.

This is just a quick email to share some information about home learning with you.

    Our ‘Home Learning’ website page

This can be found here: https://www.stsavioursbath.co.uk/home-learning/

A handy video of how to use it can be watched here: https://youtu.be/LGJQt2C7VrI

    Home Learning Menus

Home Learning Menus will be uploaded daily from today (Monday 30th March) on the Home Learning year group pages.

They will be available by 10am each day (term time only). These are here for you to download and use with your children.

They are explained in more detail in the video linked above.

Please don’t put pressure on yourselves or your children to complete lots of work at home. Build a timetable that works for you and your family. It will be different to other families and that is fine.

There will be NO online work set over the two weeks planned Easter break. To protect staff workload and to ensure they have a good break too, they will not be accessing Teams during this time.

However, there is still lots to do if you want to keep the children entertained and learning while you are at home. We suggest taking part in the ‘Whole School Projects’ on the Home Learning Page, logging onto TTRockstars/ NumBots or visiting the ‘Other useful resources’ section at the bottom of our home learning page.

     Microsoft Teams

Please log in to Teams. You can do this via your desktop, a phone app or tablet.

We have published rules and information for the children to follow. Please read this with them and make sure they understand: click here

If you don’t have your Teams login, please email the appropriate school (email addresses below) and we can send it to you. You can message teachers directly and ask questions, a video to help you with Teams will be coming soon.

    juniors@stsaviours.bwmat.org or infants@stsaviours.bwmat.org

Some changes to how we use Teams

As we have started to develop the way we use ‘Teams’, we have been reflecting on how it is working and how we can make it better. This week your children will start to see some changes including:

    1. Teams discussions will be turned off between 7pm and 7am
    1. Teachers will be able to mute individuals, or whole classes, for a period of time, if they feel it is appropriate to stop the discussion.  e.g. if they want to encourage children to go and read, instead of typing into Teams.

We have some other changes we would like to implement that we will share once we have had feedback from our IT support service at the Trust.

    Keeping in touch

Over the coming weeks, we will be looking to keep in touch with our school community in a variety of ways. We may be chatting with some children on Teams and/ or making occasional phone calls to families and children, just to check in and see how you are getting on. We look forward to hearing about all the fun things you have been doing at home with your families.

Thank you for your continued support and please ‘Stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives!'

    Best wishes,

    Mr Beament

  • School Update - COVID19

    Tue 24 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this email finds you well and you are coping well and staying at home.

I am just emailing with some information, updates and changes we have implemented.

    ‘Lockdown’

Boris Johnson effectively put the country in lockdown yesterday evening. It is important that we balance our duty to offer Key Worker childcare (currently there is no change to this guidance) and follow Government guidance to social distance.

Therefore, we have made some changes to how we organise this.

    Office hours

The School Offices have been closed from today. If you want to contact the school please use the school email addresses:

    juniors@stsaviours.bwmat.org or infants@stsaviours.bwmat.org

All emails to the schools will be picked up and actioned remotely by the office team however there will be delays in the speed of response.

All calls to the Junior Office have now been redirected to the Infant Office, however these will not be checked regularly so we encourage you to email if you need to.

    Key Workers Childcare

We remain open for child for Key Worker children and vulnerable children. However, we strongly advise you to keep your children at home if it’s safe to do so.

Gavin Williamson the Education Secretary stated over the weekend:

‘Help schools to focus on the children who need a place most, and keep your kids at home if you can. Stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives’

If you can keep your children at home you must do so. However, if you are a key worker vital to the country’s fight against COVID-19 and you have no other alternative but to send your child to school, we are here for you.

Families in this group can book places via Schoolcomms. Please click here, log in to the School Gateway and access the club called ‘Key Workers’ followed by the dates of the child care.  Please use this club booking facility to book places for your child(ren) for those days for which you need childcare. We are planning to continue childcare over Easter.

This booking system will be locked from midnight on Thursday each week for the following week’s bookings to give us time to organise staffing. If you want to cancel a place you need to email the schools.

Please do this as early as possible so we can plan and send home staff if they are not required.

    Home Learning

A video helping you use the Home Learning page was uploaded to the school website on Monday.

It can also be watched here:

    https://youtu.be/LGJQt2C7VrI

Please don’t put pressure on yourselves or your children to complete lots of work at home. Build a timetable that works for you and your family. It will be different to other families and that is fine. This is new to all of us and we are learning together.

Thank you for your continued support and please ‘Stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives!'

    Best wishes

    Mr Beament

An email was sent today regarding this, please reply by 12noon TODAY

I will contact families on this list with arrangements for next week.

Children entitled to free school meals

We have put in arrangements for next week to provide all children that are entitled to Free School Meals with a free take away packed lunch. If you are on this list you can collect this lunch between 12 and 1pm Monday to Friday next week from the Infant School, regardless of which school your child attends.

Please note that this DOES NOT include Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM).

If you are not sure if you are entitled to this please give us a call and we will check our system for you.

If you don’t qualify for Free School Meals but are worried about feeding your children during this difficult time please make contact with the schools in person, by phone or email and someone will get back to you ASAP. All these discussions will be treated confidentially – we really want to help!

    Next week

School will be closed to the children until further notice and staffing will be reduced on site to protect staff and follow Government advice.

We aim to keep the school offices open next week so please make contact in the normal ways if you have any questions.

If the School Offices close, or we reduce hours I will email you with these changes.

  • COVID-19 update – 19/03/20

    Thu 19 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Please read to the end!

    Current Government advice

The core Government advice regarding self-isolation has not changed since 17/03/20.

Current advice can be found here:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection)

Please continue to use the absence lines or emails to let us know if your child(ren) are not going to attend school. Please include the name of the child(ren), year group(s), details for absence and the length of absence. If you email, please title the email ‘Pupil Absence’.

    Infant School: infants@stsaviours.bwmat.org

    Junior School: juniors@stsaviours.bwmat.org

    Importance update on school absence

Some parents have chosen not to send their child to school, understandably, based on individual family circumstances.  We understand every family will need to make choices based on their own position.  We fully support this approach and we will not take any action against families choosing not to send their children to school – although school will remain open to all our children.

In previous emails we have explained what children can do if they are now at home now.

Supporting Key workers and vulnerable children

The Government announced yesterday that schools should attempt to organise provision to support children of ‘key workers’ and the most vulnerable.

We are waiting for further Government advice this morning and will email families ASAP. Please keep checking your email this morning as we will require a quick turn around response from you.

    Home Learning Packs

If you have not collected or received your ‘Home Learning Pack’ these can be picked up from the relevant school office today.

You can collect this yourself or a friend can do this for you. If you have no way of collecting this pack, please contact the office and we will try and arrange delivery for you.

    Microsoft 365

A paper letter was sent home yesterday with details of how you and your child(ren) can log into Microsoft Office 365.

The ‘log in’ allows you to access and use the Office 365 package (e.g. ‘Word’ and ‘PowerPoint’) to create documents and you can start using it from today. Have fun!

We may decide to implement Microsoft Teams in order for teachers to interact and collaborate online with children and more information will be sent via email as required – please do not use Microsoft Teams at this time.

If you didn’t receive a paper letter, please collect it from the relevant school office from today (Thursday 19th March), or send in a friend/ family member to collect it for you.

Please log onto this platform before Friday and let us know if you have any problems ASAP.

    Staffing

At the time of writing this email we have had some staffing absence but have made arrangements and the organisation of both schools remains the same.

We will update parents if this situation changes.

    Ongoing Communication

We want to ensure that communication between school and families is as clear, regular and detailed as possible in this difficult and unprecedented time.

I will email again tomorrow with further updates.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for all your understanding and continued support during this time.

  • School Closure

    Wed 18 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    School Closure

The Government has just announced that schools across England will CLOSE from this Friday.

We will continue to be open on Thursday and Friday this week as long as staff levels allow.

They have also announced that schools will continue to support children of ‘key workers’ and ‘vulnerable children’. I will email families tomorrow with more information of what this means and what we will be doing next.

In the meantime, please refer to the ‘COVID19 update – 18/03/20’ email sent to you this afternoon and the school website for information on our current position and changes we have implemented.

My email to families tomorrow will also include further information regarding Government advice, any changes to school arrangements, and home learning plans.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this unprecedented and challenging time.

    Best wishes,

  • COVID-19 update – 18/03/20

    Wed 18 Mar 2020

    Current Government advice

The Government advice regarding self-isolation did not change yesterday (17/03/20)

Current advice is as follows (please note the text in italics, this is copied directly from the Government website at 8:40am on 18/03/20) (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection)

    Symptoms

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of:

    • new continuous cough and/or
    • high temperature

For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

    Main messages

    • if you live alone and you have symptoms of coronavirus illness (COVID-19), however mild, stay at home for 7 days from when your symptoms started. (See ending isolation section below for more information)
    • if you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill
    • it is likely that people living within a household will infect each other or be infected already. Staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community
    • for anyone in the household who starts displaying symptoms, they need to stay at home for 7 days from when the symptoms appeared, regardless of what day they are on in the original 14 day isolation period. (See ending isolation section below for more information
    • if you can, move any vulnerable individuals (such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions) out of your home, to stay with friends or family for the duration of the home isolation period
    • if you cannot move vulnerable people out of your home, stay away from them as much as possible
    • if you have coronavirus symptoms:
      • do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital
      • you do not need to contact 111 to tell them you’re staying at home
      • testing for coronavirus is not needed if you’re staying at home
    • plan ahead and ask others for help to ensure that you can successfully stay at home and consider what can be done for vulnerable people in the household
    • ask your employer, friends and family to help you to get the things you need to stay at home
    • wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, each time using soap and water, or use hand sanitiser
    • if you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home, or your condition gets worse, or your symptoms do not get better after 7 days, then use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service. If you do not have internet access, call NHS 111. For a medical emergency dial 999

This is an important measure to protect both you and our whole school community. Please be aware that the advice is being updated regularly and we advise families to check the website below for the most recent advice.

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public

    https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response

We understand that this advice can be open to some interpretation and we are happy to speak to families about their situation if they feel this would be helpful.

Please continue to use the absence lines or emails to let us know if your child(ren) are not going to attend school. Please include the name of the child(ren), year group(s), details for absence and the length of absence. If you email, please title the email ‘Pupil Absence’.

    Junior School: juniors@stsaviours.bwmat.org

    Importance update on school absence

Some parents have chosen not to send their child to school, understandably based on individual family circumstances.  We understand every family will need to make choices based on their own position.  We fully support this approach and we will not take any action against families choosing not to send their children to school – although school will remain open to all our children.

In previous emails we have explained what children can do if they are now at home now.

    Public Health enquiries

We have had some specific enquires from individuals regarding their symptoms and symptoms of members of our community.

We have listen to the information and advice provided from Public Health. At the time of writing the current position is that we ask all families to follow the government advice available at the top of this email and at:

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public

Start and end of the school day

As a reminder the start and end of the day arrangements have changed:

In order to ‘social distance’ within our community the following changes will be made to the start and end of the school day.

Start of the school day: All registers will remain open until 9:30am

The doors to the school will close at normal time so children arriving after 9am (Infants) and 8:55am (Juniors) will have to sign in at the school offices.

When arriving at school please attempt to drop your children off at the outside door rather than entering the building.

End of the school day: All teachers will dismiss children gradually over up to a 10 minute period. Please use all the space outside the classrooms to ‘social distance’ and leave the school carefully.

    Assemblies

Due to advice received from the Bath and Wells Trust we will not be having whole school assemblies from today. Children will meet in smaller groups in classrooms or the hall.

    Home Learning Packs

If you have not collected or received your ‘Home Learning Pack’ these can be picked up from the relevant school office from today.

You can collect this yourself or a friend can do this for you. If you have no way of collecting this please contact the office and we will try and arrange delivery for you.

    Microsoft 365

A paper letter will be sent home today with details of how you and your child can log into Microsoft Office 365.

The ‘log in’ allows you to access and use the Office 365 package (e.g. ‘Word’ and ‘PowerPoint’) to create documents and you can start using it from today. Have fun!

If we close for a substantial length of time, we may decide to implement Microsoft Teams in order for teachers to interact and collaborate online with children and more information will be sent as required – please do not use Microsoft Teams at this time.

If you don’t receive a paper letter, please collect it from the relevant office from tomorrow (Thursday 19th March).

    Timetables

Some parents have requested Home Learning timetables to support routines at home if we have to close. These have now been uploaded to our Home Learning website page: https://www.stsavioursbath.co.uk/home-learning/

    Staffing

At the time of writing this email we have had some staffing absence but have made arrangements and the organisation of both schools remains the same.

We will update parents if this situation changes.

    Ongoing Communication

We want to ensure that communication between school and families is as clear, regular and as detailed as possible in this difficult and unprecedented time. The current pattern of Government communications is that new announcements are made late in the day and do not allow time for schools to respond before the start of the next day.

We will aim to update parents and carers on a daily basis even if this is to just reiterate current messages.

Thank you for all your understanding and continued support during this time.
