    Mon 27 Feb 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Weekly Roundup - Junior School

    Welcome back to term 4!

We have made a great start to the term. On Tuesday, we had a visit from our Assistant Director of Education in the Trust, Faye Bertham. Faye worked with myself, Sara, Sophie and Mr Beament for the morning, and our Chairs of Governors kindly joined us at the end to hear some feedback. We looked at teaching and learning in the classrooms, and focussed specifically on our provision for all children with SEND. It was lovely to be able to celebrate the provision at the Juniors with Faye, and to hear her positive feedback on the experiences that staff work hard to create for all children in school every day.

Faye said the inclusive approach of the Junior school is a strength, and she can see that the whole school championing this approach. She enjoyed looking at some of our newer learning spaces and seeing these in action! We have created a small study zone, cosy space (called the Nest) and our Gym. We will look forward to sharing photos of these spaces in the coming weeks (there are a few final touches we would like to make). As always, the children’s behaviour for learning was excellent, and it was lovely to share the brilliant working relationships all staff have with pupils. We are very lucky to have such wonderful staff and pupils at St Saviours.

    Coming up:

World Book Day: we will be celebrating this in school on Friday 3rd March, and as part of this, would like to invite children to dress up as their favourite book character if they would like to. In school, we will be focussing on a selection of books around a theme of kindness.

Parents and Carers evening: Tuesday 21st and Thursday 23rd March – more information to follow about how to book a slot

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Weekly roundup Infants

The term started with excitement and enthusiasm for Pancake day. Reception helped make the pancake batter and Sarah in the kitchen cooked and flipped them showing off her skills! Nursery talked about their favourite pancake toppings and designed their own pancakes on plates. Year 1 and 2 had a tasting session and had pancake races in the playground. The children found out why Shrove Tuesday is an important event in the Christian calendar, how it symbolises a time to reflect and how some people chose to give up something or change something for the period of Lent in the lead up to Easter. Click here for Japan class and here for Child class photos.

    World Book Day

Next week is World Book Day which we are celebrating on Friday 3rd March. Here is a message from Joanna our English Lead

We are celebrating World Book Day, “changing lives through a love of books and reading” with an opportunity for your child to come dressed up as their favourite book character.

We appreciate that some children do not like dressing up. They are welcome to wear their own clothes (coming as a child from a book), or they could come to school in their usual school uniform if they feel more comfortable with this.

During the day children will get to take part in fun activities with a focus on drama. Teachers will be sharing their favourite stories with the children and running short workshops throughout the day. Children will have the opportunity to visit different classrooms to hear these stories and take part in the drama activities. This will allow children to take on different character roles, tell stories and perform supporting the work we are doing as part of our Voice 21 project where we are enhancing our speaking and listening skills.

We are all looking forward to dressing up and celebrating a love of reading.

A message from the school council and Kamala

School Council have been busy thinking about who we would like to raise money for next and how. School Council had lots of ideas about raising money for families in our country and around the world and so we have exciting news- the school councillors have decided to raise money for Comic Relief! We will be doing this on Friday 17th March on Red Nose Day.

Each class will be doing something different- see below. The whole school also hope to take part in a dance along with Gethin on Morning Live.

    • Japan will do a sponsored run- distance to be confirmed by Japan Class.

    • Morocco will wear a special t-shirt or silly hat day and will bring in a donation to do this.

    • France will do a sponsored Lego build.

    • Brazil will decorate cakes or biscuits and sell them after school.

    • Chile will have a cake stall with cakes/biscuits donated from home.

We are looking forward to a fun day and thank you in advance for your support. If you have any questions please talk to your child’s class teacher.

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Weekly Roundup - Junior School

This week has been another busy week at the Juniors and we are looking forward to half term next week!

    Archie Day

On Thursday, Year 3 and 4 celebrated Archie Day. A member of the team from Reminiscence Learning came in and spent the day with the children. Some of the activities they did included singing the Archie Song, taking part in a memories and respect workshop and making felt scarecrows. The children looked fantastic in their costumes and had a great day. Ava said, “It was really fun because we went to Oriel Lodge to meet some residents,” and Iris said, “We did a parade in our costumes!” Lenny said, “I loved that bit.” A huge thank you to Mrs Merrett for organising the day and to the volunteers who supported the children going to the Oriel Lodge (and those who have volunteered to help next term also).  Click here to see pictures of Archie Day.

    Swimming Gala

Some of the children in Year 6 took part in the swimming gala at Bath Leisure Centre on Monday. They had a great time, and swam well in their races. Roxy said, “It was really fun because we were racing against other schools,” and Joe said, “It was really good because you could see how good you were at swimming and how good other people were at swimming.” Thank you so much to Mrs Offler and the parents who supported the children at this event.

    Forest School

Year 5 had a brilliant time at Forest school yesterday, celebrating the end of term with a campfire where they toasted marshmallows. Other activities including making bird feeders, making elder wood beads, making hammocks and using the slacklines. We were lucky to have beautiful weather too. Click here to see pictures of Year 5 at forest school.

    Fri 10 Feb 2023

     Dear Parents and Carers,

    Weekly roundup – Infants

We’ve had a great last week of term!

On Tuesday the Year 1 and 2 recreated the Great Fire of London offering their Tudor houses that they designed and made in DT to be set alight. The houses looked great; we took individual photos of the houses that got stuck onto the children’s DT evaluation sheets.

Agnes said, ‘I was really happy with my door, the painting was easy but making the roof was difficult. Next time I would make it a bit longer.’

The flames took hold quite quickly and we were surprised as there wasn’t any wind like there had been in 1666. The children sang London’s Burning. We had a big discussion about fire safety and how our houses today are built out of brick.

Japan class and Morocco class led a brilliant assembly sharing their learning from this term. They performed a poem, sang a song with signing, shared diary extracts and created a filmed news report using Green screen technology. It was a brilliant way to end the term. For photos of the fire burning click here.

    World book day

We will be celebrating this in school on Friday 3rd March, and as part of this, would like to invite children to dress up as their favourite book character if they would like to.
