  • Goodbye Midnight – end of an era!

    Wed 22 Jun 2022

With the summer holiday looming, and the children off it was decided that our feathered friend, Midnight would greatly benefit some summer company. We are happy to say that we have found her a happy home, with a leafy garden in which to peck and roam.

It was a school councillor, 12 years ago who came up with the original idea of rescuing ex battery hens, selling their eggs and investing in the saving of more ex-battery hens. The reception area was well known for having eggs for sale daily. The number of parents and children who became regular visits to the coop during the summer holiday has been astonishing: often with the same faces returning time and time again. Of course, the hens have been a hit at break times with the children, and for some children they have benefited hugely by their presence. Of course there have been some funny moments- an escapee walking past Ms Birkett’s classroom with children calling out in their maths lesson ‘ Ms Birkett, Ms Birkett, there’s a chicken outside the classroom, followed in hot pursuit by Mr Beament and 3 other adults! Thankfully, she was soon captured and returned to safety.

Who would have believed that 12 years ago when we won £2000 in a Bath Chronical project, that we would give a special home to a total of 21 chickens and made an impression on so many people.

  • Weekly Roundup – Infant School

    Fri 17 Jun 2022

We had such fun last Friday during our Opal presentation and our Parents and Carers Stay and Play. The sun was shining, and our school grounds were in full bloom.

Sophie and Hannah made a home for snails. Alivia found a giant newt and had fun handling it carefully, looking closely, sharing it with her friends and then putting it back in its home. Children were climbing trees, digging, and making mud soup; creating games using loose parts and making potions with the water; there were bikes, scooters, football and acrobatics and gymnastics!

All the children had huge smiles on their faces as did the grownups! We are so proud of our Play and we look forward to continuing to enhance our provision in line with children’s voice and interests. Click here to see all of the photos from the day.

    New Discovery themes this term

Nursery’s Discovery theme is Changing me! Children are thinking about how they’ve changed as they’ve grown, their likes and dislikes and thinking about moving up to becoming the oldest children in the nursery or transitioning to reception.

Reception’s Discovery theme is Stories from around the World exploring different cultures, finding out about countries and the people and animals that live there. Tommy bought in lots of croissants for the children to share and I had fun in the International Café where I was offered food choices from around the World.

KS1’s Discovery theme is Picture This. They are learning about Frieda Kahlo and aspects of life in Mexico due to its location and geographical features. The children have concentrated hard learning about colour mixing primary and secondary and in year 2 the children were looking at tertiary colours! Please click here for Colour mixing Year 2

    Fri 17 Jun 2022

What a beautiful week –it’s been so sunny!

    Bake off

We kicked off the week with the E-Team bake off, and what a success it was. Miss Williams and the E-Team worked hard to encourage children from across the St Saviour’s Schools to bring in bakes either linked to their culture or favourite books. We were blown away by the fantastic range of bakes, and the sale was a huge success. Click here to see pictures of the delicious bakes and the fun the children had selling them. Miss Williams awarded all participants with a certificate in assembly today to celebrate their great work. We will put the money raised towards new non-fiction books based around our topics which the classes will give to the new classes in their year group next year.

    Family Thrive

We have been running Family Thrive sessions for the past two weeks – the course will run for a further four weeks. Participants have been learning about the brain, child development and ways of being alongside a child during times of dysregulation. We’ve loved sharing The Thrive Approach so far, and hope the participants are finding the course useful. For pictures, click here
