    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Weekly Roundup - Junior School

It may have been a rather rainy week, but we’ve been busy doing lots of learning!

Hart Class have been swimming this week at the Leisure Centre in Bath. They have been travelling in on the coach, and have been learning different strokes. Mrs Russell was so impressed yesterday with the children’s water confidence, and said every child was able to go underwater! Well done Hart class!

Year 5 have been continuing writing poetry, and it has been lovely to hear some of their excellent poems throughout the week. They have been writing in the style of Michael Rosen. Bella used great direct speech, Isla’s poem was very funny and Ralph M’s handwriting was beautiful!

In assembly, we enjoyed singing and reflecting together, and Isla shared her santa dash medal which she earnt during the Christmas holidays – well done Isla.

  • Infant weekly roundup

    Fri 13 Jan 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Weekly roundup – Infants

It’s been a wild and soggy week and the sunshine today is definitely welcomed! We do try to get outside in all weathers so please if wellies were taken home for Christmas can they start to come back in again. It’s supposed to be getting colder again next week so layers, coats, hats and scarves at the ready.

It’s the start of a new term and a new year and we’ve been looking at our Caring Code and how it helps us.

Our Caring Code permeates through all that we do at school. It helps us to explore how to care for ourselves, each other, our environment, and the needs of others beyond our school community. Through showing respect we can explore how we respect ourselves and each other, how its ok to have differing opinions and beliefs and how it’s important to be able to share our thoughts and listen to each other. Doing our best helps us to look at developing resilience and learning that its ok to make mistakes or find things tricky. It’s about sticking at something, giving it a go and not giving up. Through our Caring Code children learn that we are not all the same and that that’s ok. We learn that we may learn in different ways and need different resources or support to help us. We celebrate each other’s achievements and support each other if we’re feeling sad.

This is what the children say about the Caring Code.

The Caring code means be nice to people. I play with people, that’s being nice! – Leo

It helps us to be kind. If we don’t be kind our friends will feel sad. – Defne

It helps us to make sure people don’t get hurt and that we have a good time. – Alys

It reminds us about concentrating in our learning. – Xander

It helps us to show respect by looking after people and our stuff. – Stanley and Luca

It’s ok to be different and some people have other ideas. It would be unfair if you didn’t include people in your games. People are allowed to like what they want and wear what they want, as long as they feel comfortable. If you care about them, they will care about you - Eva and Sophie

We are proud of our children and how we work together to make St Saviours a fun, safe and happy place to grow and learn.

  • Weekly Roundup Infants

    Fri 06 Jan 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Weekly roundup – Infants

    And we’re back….

Happy New Year to you all. We hope that you had a good rest over the break and that everyone feels refreshed and raring to go.

It was lovely to see all the children returning on Wednesday looking relaxed with smiles on their faces. On Wednesday we shared in assembly how a new year can mark a new beginning and a chance to get excited about new things. The children shared their ideas.

Aoife said, ‘I am excited about friends’ parties and also maths.’

Elliot said, ‘I am excited about finding out more about the Great Fire of London our new Discovery theme.’

Sophie said, ‘I am looking forward to learning more skills in gymnastics.’

Zaedyn said, ‘I’m looking forward to getting even better at writing.’

Later that day I enjoyed a lovely afternoon with France class where we shared feelings of success as part of our Jigsaw learning. Olive shared that she had felt success over the holidays when she completed a 300 piece puzzle! She shared that it had been really tricky but that she had completed each part of the picture in turn. She was obviously proud of her achievement, and we had a great discussion around how achieving things that had been tricky can make us feel even greater feelings of success. We made links with our Caring Code and how doing our best means persevering and not giving up even when things are hard. Well done Olive for great perseverance.

    Our four-legged friends

A polite reminder that our school site is a dog free site. This is purely for health and safety reasons and is Trust policy. All of the dogs that I meet are all very well behaved and are lovely, however, they do need to be left at the school gate. If there’s no one to wait with them, please can they be tied to a part of the fence where children have enough space to enter the site. Some of our children can feel nervous around dogs and they need to be able to come into school feeling happy. The black gates at the side entrance have enough space but if you enter via the top entrance please just make sure the gate way is free.

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.

We wish you a peaceful weekend and look forward the terms learning ahead.

    Sophie

  • Weekly Roundup Juniors

    Fri 06 Jan 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers,

    Weekly Round-up - Junior School

Welcome back and Happy New Year! It’s been great to be back together in school again and lovely to hear all of the children’s news.

On Tuesday, the staff had a productive day talking about teaching and learning. Sophie and Mrs Lewis taught everyone about metacognition (learning how we learn and approach problems) and Sara spoke about how we can continue to support every child in the best way.

I have seen some lovely work already this week. Year 5 have been writing poetry, and Filip shared a wonderful poem with me about Superheroes – we hope you enjoy it:

    Superheroes are rarely seen,

So if you saw one, lucky you’ve been

    Soaring swiftly in the sky,

    Capes billowing, watch them fly!

Villains try to block their way,

But once again they save the day.

    Burgling, murder, evil spies

Are stopped by piercing laser eyes.

Muscular arms so big and strong,

That they rip ladders rung by rung,

So my advice (just in case you meet them)

Because they saved you, just respect them.
